Weekly Art Classes and Concentrations
January 13th - May 17th, 2025
Join us for a 17 week semester of weekly creativity, technique-building, and fun! At The Art Garage, ENCOURAGEMENT is our language. Students will learn in a safe and encouraging environment fostered by our art instructors. We believe there is a Creator in all of us, and that art is for EVERYONE - we hope to help your along in your creative journey at our studio and beyond!
Art classes for K-12th grade students will experiment with a variety of mediums and materials, creating projects in 2D and 3D throughout the semester.
Concentrations will learn and expand on the basics of a singular medium (your choice of drawing or painting) and build upon progress with diverse techniques.

Art Classes
"Beginning Art”
K-2nd grade
is geared toward introductory artists, approximately ages 5-8 years old. They will receive a foundation of art principles and design concepts, as well as the opportunity to experiment with many art mediums as they complete exciting projects, both 2D and 3D. They will be exposed to the proper technique and art grammar and vocabulary along the way. Your student will be given clear instruction in an encouraging environment. Our goal for this class is to build a foundation of knowledge while making creating fun!

"Art 1"
3rd-5th grade
is tailored for developing artists, ages 8-11 years old. Student will learn drawing techniques inspired by well-known artists, and will build on the skills that they learn weekly. Students will be exposed to basic elements of art and composition as they create pieces in a variety of mediums, both 2D and 3D. We believe an encouraging environment and clear instruction is all it takes to set a child on a successful artistic journey! Our goal for this class is to expand artists' skillset and encouraging their expression.

"Art 2"
6th-12th grade
is created for artists just beginning their art journey AND artists sharpening their skills, between the ages of 11-18 years old. The Art 2 curriculum is built for a wide range of experience levels and based on engaging subject matter for this age group. Students will learn and continue to utilize elements of art and composition, creating pieces in an array of different mediums, both 2D and 3D. We believe that an encouraging environment and clear instruction is all it takes to set a child on a successful artistic journey! Our goal for this class level is to encourage artists to challenge themselves as they tackle newer and/or more advanced techniques, and to explore their individual creativity with their vision of projects.

“Art 3”
6th-12th grade
is for students with training that desire to challenge their skill, pursue technical growth, and eventually develop a portfolio. This class includes directed projects with the goal of developing a student’s artistic voice. Self-motivated students with a good grasp of several mediums, as well as drawing realistically, will thrive in the Art 3 environment. Optional open studio times are avalible to these students M-W with teacher feedback , once monthly critique with high level instructor , and scheduled periodic check-ins with teaching staff for variety of one-on-one feedback and encouragement (in-person or over Zoom). Please review the recommended pre-requiisites.

We never want to move an artist up to a level they aren’t comfortable in yet, students should feel encouraged at our studio! Here are some recommended classes to take and concepts to develop prior to joining Art 3.
* Experience with multiple art mediums
* Proficiency in 1-2 mediums
* Realistic drawing skills
All of these skills can be obtained by taking The Art Garage "Art 2" (at least one year) and The Art Garage "Drawing 1" and "Drawing 2".
“Young Drawing”
3rd Grade - 5th Grade
For young artists interested in developing their basic drawing techniques in realism using graphite/charcoal. Students will learn how to draw realistically by practicing with these mediums, discovering how to translate the world around them into a realistic image. This class is for artists who have no prior experience AND artists who have prior training.

“Drawing 2”
6th Grade - Adult
This is a more advanced drawing class that works on a larger scale and best equips our students to transition into color, essentially preparing them for Painting 1. This cirriculum continues to focus on realism, while introducing color as well as different substrates. Drawing 2 requires Drawing 1.

“Drawing 1”
6th Grade - Adult
Much like learning a language, drawing is a learned skill. Learn the basics of drawing realistically in graphite and charcoal in Drawing 1. We will navigate line, shape, highlight, and shadow using these mediums. Our goal is to learn how to draw what we see and gain an understanding of the basic elements of composition. Drawing 1 requires no prior experience.

“Painting 1”
6th Grade - Adult
This Painting Class is an intensive that builds on pre-established drawing skills and begins incorporating color into images. This class will delve into color theory and how to create a color scheme, as well as teach how to manipulate paint on canvas to achieve the goal you want. *This class is not for beginners at art, but it is for beginners at paint!
